What We Believe

We believe the Bible to be the true word of God without error, sufficient, and authoritative on all matters of life and faith. We believe there is one God, eternally existing in three Persons called the Trinity. We believe that all of humanity is uniquely created in the image of God and for relationship with God. We believe that all of humanity is bound in sin and only the grace of God can bring humanity into a relationship with a holy God and enable them to fulfill the creative purposes of God. We believe the gospel is a gift of grace and the only effective means of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. We believe that Christ established His visible Church that is composed of all those who put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and are sealed by the Holy Spirit in the gospel. We believe the Kingdom of God exists now but is hidden from the world. We believe that Christ will return again in the future and there will be a bodily resurrection of all people, a believer to everlasting life and fellowship with God, an unbeliever to condemnation and everlasting punishment.

Our Statement of Faith

Doctrines

The gospel is the heart of what we believe as a church. And yet many other beliefs support the gospel and grow out of the gospel. Below is our doctrinal statement. This “statement of faith” summarizes many of the core teachings of the Bible that we believe as a congregation.
  1. The Bible: We believe the Bible is the Word of God, inspired by Him and completely accurate, inerrant, infallible, and sufficient in its original manuscripts written by men chosen by God. Therefore, the Bible is our only authority on all matters of faith and practice.
  2. The Trinity.  We believe there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Father, Son and Holy Spirit share the same essence, power and glory. They are equal in every divine perfection and execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence, and redemption.
  3. Jesus Christ: We believe that Jesus is the Christ, one and only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father. He is fully God and fully man. He exists eternally with the Father and the Holy Spirit, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and was crucified and buried. He was resurrected bodily on the third day, appeared to His followers, and ascended into heaven where He is seated at the right hand of the Father. We believe that Jesus’ death alone atones for sin, effects justification, and imputes His righteousness on His elect. We believe this same Jesus will one day return physically and visibly to the earth, and every knee shall bow to Him and every tongue confess that He is Lord.
  4. The Holy Spirit: We believe the Holy Spirit is co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and the Son. He eternally proceeds from the Father and the Son, was active in creation, incarnation, the resurrection of Jesus, and now dwells in the heart of each individual believer from the moment of salvation. Through illumination He enables people to understand the truth. He exalts Christ. He convicts people of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He calls people to the Savior, and effects regeneration, and works in and through believers to bring about sanctification.
  5. Humanity: We believe that God created human beings, both male and female, in His own image and likeness. innocent of sin and with freedom of choice. By his free choice, when tempted by Satan, man sinned against God bringing sin into the human race, and all of humanity is estranged from their Creator God, deserving of death as punishment for sin, and responsible, as Adam was, for their own moral corruption. Only the grace of God can bring humankind into His holy fellowship and enable them to fulfill the creative purpose of God. The sacredness of human personality is evident in that God created man in His own image, and in that Christ died for man; therefore, every person of every race possesses full dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.
  6. Salvation: We believe that all humankind are sinners and therefore justly deserve God’s condemnation. The atoning death of Jesus Christ is God’s provision alone for our salvation, and eternal life is received by personal faith in Jesus Christ according to the Scriptures, with evidence of true repentance. Salvation is a free gift of God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. We cannot save ourselves through religious good works, spirituality, charity, or any other human effort. The gospel is the good news of God’s grace in Jesus Christ that we receive by faith and believe, and we do so, God forgives our sins, declares us righteous in God’s sight, adopts us into His family, and seals us with the Holy Spirit.
  7. The Church: We believe that Christ has established a visible Church, the bride of Christ, composed of all who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, united and sealed by the Spirit in the gospel. Local churches are called, in accordance with New Testament Scripture, to assemble regularly for worship to proclaim the gospel, rightly practice the ordinances of water baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and be a community of the faith rightly ordered under the authority of the Bible.
  8. God’s Kingdom, Present and Future: We believe that God’s kingdom exists now but is hidden from the world. God commands that citizens of His kingdom love Him supremely, and love others sacrificially. In accordance with God’s commandments, the local church should be committed to deep and meaningful worship and fervent prayer, and to serving spiritual and physical needs in the world. God’s foremost command is to broadcast the gospel of Jesus Christ for salvation throughout the entire world. Other examples of faithful service include feeding the hungry, seeking justice for the oppressed, rescuing helpless and defenseless human beings, including the unborn child, and promoting biblical definitions of gender, sexuality, and marriage. Throughout this kingdom work, each believer must act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
  9. The Resurrection and Future Judgment: We believe in the bodily resurrection of all the dead, of the believer to everlasting life and fellowship with God, and of the unbeliever to condemnation and everlasting punishment.
